BEFORE YOU CONTINUE Make sure you have completed the Oneflow x Slack integration setup. See Getting started with Oneflow x Slack. This article helps you understand how and where you receive alerts once you enable reminders. Slack reminders bring crucial contract timelines directly into your Slack channels. These alerts are directly tied to the deadlines you set inside each Oneflow contract and remind you exactly three days before a contract expires. |
How to activate contract reminders
-
Navigate to your chosen Slack channel: Open your public or private channel where you want these reminder alerts to appear. If the Oneflow app is not added to your channel, type
/invite @Oneflowinto the text field and press Enter. -
Navigate to the Configure notifications menu: Type the slash command
/channel-notificationsin the chatbox and press Enter. You can also click the Configure notifications button if the Oneflow bot has already sent a message to the channel. - Scroll down to the Reminders section: In the configuration window, enable the Reminders category under Notifications.
- Choose your reminders: Check the boxes next to the reminders you want to activate. You can toggle on the 3-day signing period expiration safety net, the upcoming renewal alerts for recurring contracts, or single-period contract end notifications.
- Save your settings: Click Proceed to save, then click Save.

When and where reminders appear
1. Personal direct messages (the Oneflow Bot)
Where: Delivered directly to your private Oneflow bot chat under the Apps section in your Slack sidebar.
When: These are automatically routed to the contract owner as contract events happen. No additional configuration is required to receive these direct message reminders.
2. Shared workspace channels
Where: Posted directly into any public or private Slack channel where the Oneflow app has been invited (use the /invite @Oneflow command).
When: Contract event reminders are streamed live to the channel based on the selected reminder and privacy choices your administrator sets up in the Configure notifications dialog box. These are useful for keeping cross-functional teams like legal, sales, or procurement aligned on upcoming renewals.
Signing period settings in Oneflow

HOW REMINDERS WORK A reminder is only as good as the deadline it tracks. You do not configure the timing of these alerts in Slack; instead, Slack uses the rules established in your Oneflow documents and templates. When setting up channel configurations for reminders, administrators must ensure that reminders are configured only for channels where the relevant personnel can see them. To learn more, see Duration Lifecycle Events and Contract duration and lifecycle settings . |
When you build a document or design a template in Oneflow, you define its lifespan in the document's settings using the Signing Period options. There are two options:
- Fixed Date: You pick a hard calendar target, for example “Signing possible until June 30, 2026.”
- Relative Duration: You assign a set number of days from the moment the contract is published.
Once this is saved at the contract level, the integration takes over.
For instance, if a contract is still sitting in the Pending Signatures state, the system automatically sends the Slack reminder exactly 3 days before that expiration window closes.
This gives your account managers a precise, actionable three-day buffer to chase down stakeholders, answer outstanding questions, and get the document finalized before the contract stalls out and forces you to restart the process.
